Rooflights as a means of escape

Are fire escape rooflights in the front slope of a roof considered to be a desirable feature in a 3 storey house with a loft conversion ? Would they be recommended by a fire safety officer if it is possible to install them as an alternative means of escape if the main stairway was impassable ? Thank you.
