Plumberpaul Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 Hi all, I’m a maintenance man in a care home and I’ve been asked to replace a door frame liner on a fire door. Just wondering if you need any kid of qualifications to do this or is fine to proceed (definitely not beyond my skill set) also, the existing door liner that’s coming out is 25mm thick, so is that actually a fire rated liner? i just purchased a fire door liner kit that’s 32mm thick any help would be greatly appreciated Quote
Neil ashdown Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 If the door leaf is new with installation instructions or an existing door leaf with a manufacturers label, you can check to find out the door frame sectional size and material requirements, hinge and hinge position requirements, intumescent seal requirements, fixing requirements (these should also be contained within the door frame kit) and fire stopping requirements. Smoke seals may likely be required too. Quote

They hung the new fire doors on the existing frames which were standard doors originally so I’m assuming these existing frames are not fire rated. i was sent out to B&Q and purchased a FD30 frame. It has no instructions with it. I’ll check the leafs tomorrow for the manufacturers label and see what I can find out. thanks for your help! Quote
Neil ashdown Posted November 7, 2019 Report Posted November 7, 2019 Tom, A door lining is another name for a door frame often with planted stops, instead of rebated from the solid. Quote
