fred25
I have just purchased a flat in a 5 storey residential block. The firex 4899 detector on the ceiling is date expired. What model now replaces this and will it fit using the old base place and connector. If base plate and connector need changing ,then who do i need to change it. Can i just replace it with a battery operated stand alone device.

fred25
Thanks, but is it a like for like replacement or will it need re-wiring ie will it fit existing base plate and is the connector the same
Safelincs
Hi The connector and baseplate are different but the alarm will work with the rest of the existing system. The existing cable has to be inserted into the new alarm. Harry
fred25
will i need an electrician to do this work or can i do it myself if electrical supply is isolated at fusebox.
Tom Sutton
It depends if the work is notifiable under approved Document P and under h it appears it is not, as you are using existing wiring but I would check it out with the LCBC. green-foam
I would suggest that as it is changing smoke detectors it has nothing to do with part p, since there is nothing new being added, I would however suggest that it has to be done by a competent person, a competent person does not have to be an electrician, but does need to know what they are doing.
