Matthew
We are looking to extend an existing 3rd floor bedroom on an old 1860 terrace house. The house has always been 3 storey since construction with no fire doors. If we extended the bedroom would a fire door or doors have to be retrospectively fitted? This particular room was remade 6 years ago due to water damage and at that time there was no mention of needing a fire door by building control. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Tom Sutton
You need to seek advice from an expert on building regulations and you would need check to see if your proposals would be considered Material Alterations. If it is not, then to my understanding it will not be subject to building regulations but you need to confirm this with an expert.
