clacky
Can anyone tell me if a set of automatic sliding doors are required to open and stay locked open in the event of a fire activation. These doors are the main entrance to the building but are not classified as a fire exit.
Tom Sutton
All doors, required for means of escape, in the event of a fire, which include the main entrance doors, are MoE doors. (Fire Exits) All doors, required or means of escape in the event of a fire, are required to be easily opened, without the need of a key, when the premises are occupied. All automatic doors should be installed according to BS 7036:0 2014/BS EN 16005 2012 which depending on design, require all automatic MoE doors should open and stay open in the event of a mains failure or electrical fault, if a breakout facility is not fitted. For a more definitive answer you need to study the standards more deeply or speak to an expert in this field.
