Guest Bluebell_Mel Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 How long does the fire alarm need to sound for the weekly test? We have 2 alarm systems, the first quick (literally a beep and then its off). Mine is longer, to the point that some people complain. A colleague seems to think it should be between 30-60 seconds. That’s unacceptable for the office. To my understanding it needs to be heard so would have thought between 3-5 seconds of sounding is sufficient. Quote
Tom Sutton Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 The weekly test has two functions, first to ensure the fire alarm is working and the second to ensure everybody can hear the alarm when operated, consequently 3-5 seconds or maybe a little longer, should be adequate, depending on occupancy. AnthonyB Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 It should only last roughly 5 seconds. If it's lasting longer then the site needs to train it's staff to use the walk test function on the system (which automatically silences the alarm sounders after a few seconds) or if the panel is too basic to support this it needs to use two people for testing.
