Hello,

I am an architect and am looking for a double, double action, floor-sprung, doorset (swings both ways), FD30 that is has a certified smoke seal all around.

Am having a job finding this arrangement for any suppliers, with the smoke seal part being the problem.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Check out http://www.firesafe.org.uk/fire-doors/ and there are links to TRADA Q-Mark fire door scheme and British Woodworking Federation Certifire fire door scheme they may be able to help.

You could also try http://www.leaderflushshapland.co.uk/LeaderflushHome/MarketSector/Education/TypicalConfiguration/CorridorpairdoubleactionholdopenFD30.aspx they may also be able to help.

hello - is it possible to have fire doors that can swing both ways?

Posted

Yes there are available double swing fire doors which uses specialised hinges and closers. A fire door closer used with double swing doors should not only close the door but also hold it firmly in the closed position. It needs to be strong enough to keep the door closed against any pressure to which the door leaf may be subjected in a fire. The only type of device which has been shown to be successful is a spring type mounted in the sill.

What is the maximum allowable gap between the two leaf at that case to comply with NFPA 80?

This is a UK site and we do not usually deal with North American standards and I would be surprised if anybody could help you, but you never know.

My customer has a large doorway in a listed building the original door was taken down and now needs a firedoor to replace

It's in a hotel so they have asked if there is such a thing as a saloon style door consisting of two doors hung on hinges as normal but swing both ways meeting in the middle is this allowed or such thing exist..

If so, how can smoke seal be achieve due to nature of closing (floor mounted closer )
