Guest Steph Posted April 5 Report Posted April 5 Hey there, have a large gap over 4mm between door frame and beginning of where drop down fire door seal starts. Can I use fire mastic to seal it? Or should I look at other options? Thanks, Steph Quote

Guest Steph Posted Saturday at 12:49 Report Posted Saturday at 12:49 Hello Neil, Thanks for the reply, as requested please see image attached, the door looks in bad shape as repair work have been carried out to fix gaps,(still not fixed) and I have been recommended the gap between the drop down seal/fire excluder and door frame/jamb can be sealed by adding fireproof mastic at the bottom, due to its position I am querying if ok to do? Thanks, Steph Quote
Neil Ashdown MAFDI Posted Monday at 17:53 Report Posted Monday at 17:53 To comply with the current standard BS 8214: 2016 it would be necessary to reduce the door to frame gap to 4mm maximum and ensure that the threshold seal, when engaged, closes the threshold gap along its length. Mastic would be unsuitable for remediating this defect. Quote

Neil Ashdown MAFDI Posted yesterday at 11:43 Report Posted yesterday at 11:43 Looking again at the photo, do you mean the hole or perhaps the gap under the door frame jamb? If so, these may be filled with suitable timber. Quote
