JGCarp2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 Hello I was just wondering. if I am replacing doors in a house with a loft conversion I know I need to have a fire door but do I need to fit self closing Perkos to them and the intumescent fire strips or does it just need to be a fire door. Mike North Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 All fire doors must be either 1 Self closing 2 Keep locked shut Perko closers are no longer permitted as closers on fire doors since they don’t latch the door from a narrow angle. Quote
Michael Douglas Posted December 21, 2023 Report Posted December 21, 2023 Well it seems now that Perko door closers are not fire rated any more ,the only Perko product which is fire rated is for a 54mm door thickness , I have a 45mm door thickness, and we have been asked to change to the New British fire rated over head door closer which is fine , what happens with the existing Perko in the door surely we need to remove the Perko ,then what happens to the existing hole in the door and how do we make that good to keep the 30 mins fire rate door , I would grateful for any input on this matter . Yours Michael Douglas Quote
AnthonyB Posted December 22, 2023 Report Posted December 22, 2023 You might as well leave it rather than damage the door, it's likely to be notional only which is either acceptable if a low rise block or needs complete replacement anyway if in a high rise. Quote
