Guest TonyC Posted July 17, 2023 Report Posted July 17, 2023 I have a care home that recently installed maglocks on doors to prevent residents accessing stairs, so obviously a fire escape route. My question is: should an emergency release button been installed at the secure side as the installer has said wouldn't be required due to release designed in the event of power failure or fire alarm activation. I cannot find the code that says it is a requirement, can anyone help? Pretty sure it is a requirement! Thanks Quote
AnthonyB Posted July 17, 2023 Report Posted July 17, 2023 BS7273-4 is your initial guide here. It's also covered in the government risk assessment guides & Approved Document B. In Care Homes you sometimes see some of the failsafe's omitted to prevent dementia patients wandering off in an emergency - as evacuation is staff led you see the break glasses but the fire alarm link isn't active . Guest Tony Posted July 31, 2023 Report Posted July 31, 2023 Thanks Anthony, It appears that the opposite has been fitted - release on alarm and fail to safe for power interruption. Quote
