Guest steve Posted June 16, 2023 Report Posted June 16, 2023 Hi all, currently on all of our fire exits leading to the outside of the building are pointed down.(see attached) Ive come across the attached document that states that they should be all facing up as down arrows indicate a change of level ie stairwells or steps. Looking online at various virtual tour of buildings it seems like both are being used. So is it up or down or does it matter? Thanks Steve safetysignsguidance.pdf Quote
Lyledunn Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 When these pictograms first surfaced, I asked my dear old mum what she thought the sign you have over your door meant. After some perplexed thought, she ventured “gents toilet downstairs”. I come across this all the time as I do hundreds of EL inspections. Whilst there are some who need to straighten their knickers on the pedantic aspects, I have stopped recording it as a deviation unless there is obvious confusion. Quote
AnthonyB Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 As above - technically it doesn't meet British Standards recommendations but unless it is likely to cause confusion and delay prompt escape it would not be a breach of the legislation. Quote
