AnthonyB Posted June 24, 2021 Report Posted June 24, 2021 Generally yes. A photoluminescent way guidance system can be a useful alternative, but only if done correctly (which is quite costly) and to ensure the material is 'charged' so it glows at full intensity for the required period you would need to leave your normal lighting on most of not all the time, so in the end the low consumption LED emergency lighting may work out cheaper in the longer term. If you want to seriously investigate the way guidance option contact https://jalite.com/safety_signs_means_of_escape who will put you in touch with a suitably trained and experienced distributor who can carry out a survey for you. green-foam Posted April 17, 2023 Report Posted April 17, 2023 Don't know about cert, but do you test them (once a year) for a full 3 hours? Quote

The Responsible Person needs to be able to prove they have a suitable system of maintenance - some may feel a log book entry for the annual test will suffice, many would expect a certificate (especially if using a third party) for which model examples are available in BS5266 and template certificates available for use from the main electrical trade associations Quote

I have read this thread several times, and I still cannot seem to understand whether we definitely need a professional organisation to carry out the three hour test or whether I can do it myself? Of course, if there are any faults found over the course of the annual test then I would bring-in the electrician to make the necessary adjustments and repairs. Please can you advise me whether I am able to carry out the annual test myself without professional intervention? Hi, I basically have the same question as Gary. I know the responsible person is permitted to do the monthly emergency lighting tests and will be fine as long as they log it, but can I do the annual discharge test or do I have to engage a fire safety trained company just to do this? Again if there's a fault I understand someone needs to come in, but if everything tests okay after the responsible person is done, does it really need to be outsourced? Especially curious as our Fire Risk Assessment company refuses to flick test them during their assessment, so wondering how it's supposed to be done. This is for a 3 storey conversion, domestic, under 11m. Thanks Quote
AnthonyB Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago In theory you could do the three hour in house, if you are competent to test briefly each month then the main difference is duration which shouldn't affect ability to test for the longer period Quote
