Fire Alarm Activation - Voice Messages & Intermittent Sounders

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the minimum/ maximum recommended time delay is between hearing the audible fire alarm activation voice messages and the intermittent sounders that follow that message.

This is for an 8 story open planned  cooperate office building.

Many thanks

It should be the other way around on a loop. Voice alarm systems should generally operate in the following repeating sequence (BS5839-8):

  1. Attention-drawing signal – lasting 2 s to 10 s followed by
  2. Brief silence – lasting 1 s to 2 s followed by
  3. Evacuate message followed by
  4. Silence – lasting 2 s to 5 s
