Mr Burns Posted June 20, 2022 Report Posted June 20, 2022 Hi, I have been given advice by many people regarding repairing full depth penetration holes in fire doors and every answer is different, can we clear this up please? so my question is what is the maximum size hole you can repair in a door before a replacement is advised and how should the repair be performed, many thanks Quote
Neil ashdown Posted June 23, 2022 Report Posted June 23, 2022 There is no straight answer! As far as I know fire doors with plugged holes have not been subject to a fire resistance test but there are some issues to consider: 1) If you plug a hole in a certificated fire door the certification for the door will be void because such work is outside the scope of the certification. 2) If you plug a hole in a fire door you should do so in the knowledge that the work you do must not adversely affect the fire performance of the door. 3) Some fire doors are made from timber so if one has a hole in it and you need to plug it, timber is a good material to use. Guest Dave N Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 A recent fire door survey has come back with the following comment 'New door set required due to mag locks bolted through'. My question is: Can the mag lock be removed and the holes filled in accordance with BM Trada's Approved Repair Technique - ART No. 02? Seems a bit extreme to have to replace the door set when there is an approved repair option. Thanks Quote
Neil Ashdown MAFDI Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 (edited) Yes some holes in timber fire door leaves can be repaired using tightly fitted hardwood and suitable adhesive. Clearly, any product certification for the door will be void but if certification is required a maintenance & repair contractor belonging to a relevant certification scheme may be able to certificate their work. Also, worth checking with the door manufacturer whether the magnetic lock is permitted under the scope of their certification/field of application report. Guest Joy Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Could anyone advise if my grandson's fire door could be repaired. The police have recently forced entry to his flat and put a 4 inch dint to the bottom half of the door and attatched two items to the door to attatch padlocks. When removed the padlock holders it has left small holes about quarter to half inch holes. Is it possible to fix a kick plate over the dinted area and repair with fire resistant adhesive, the holes also. I would be grateful for any help as his letting agents are wanting £1850.00 to replace with a new one. Quote
