CARL S Posted February 21, 2022 Report Posted February 21, 2022 I have an office in a nursing home that has no window, but all the four walls are internal so there is no option of having a window that opens outside. To add some natural light and airflow a window has been requested, but as this would open into another area of the home (corridor/escape route) how could an openable window be safe? Surely only a non openable fire resistant window can be fitted? Quote
AnthonyB Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 You've answered your own question. You could in theory have a fire resistant fixed window and a separate ventilation grille with a combined fire/smoke damper linked to the fire alarm in the wall, but they wouldn't be up for the cost of all that I suspect... CARL S Posted February 23, 2022 Author Report Posted February 23, 2022 I thought as much, thanks. Even if a fire proof openable window could be found, how could it be guaranteed that the window would be closed in the event of a fire, it couldn't. Cost would also definitely be an issue with this! Mike North Posted March 3, 2022 Report Posted March 3, 2022 The best option is an un-openable fire resisting glazing panel in the wall and a wall fan Quote
